Title I Part C: Migrant Education Program (MEP)
The Title I Migrant Education Program is a federal program designed to address the unique needs of migrant children, ages 3 through 21, and provide support and services that will help them be successful in school.
Services are provided to eligible students based on the availability of funds, priority for services, and need. The Migrant Education Program employs highly qualified and trained teachers, advocates, migrant support services aides/recruiters, and social workers.
Purpose
The purpose of the Migrant Education Program is to: Identify educational needs of migrant children and their families, and ensures that migrant students, who move between states, are not at disadvantage because of differences in curriculum, graduation requirements, and academic standards.
Mission
The mission of the Title I Migrant Education Program is to make sure that each migrant student achieves his or her highest personal potential by providing educational opportunities designed to meet their unique educational needs.
Eligibility
Children are classified as migrant if they have moved with their families across school district lines in search of temporary or seasonal work in any agricultural or fishing activity within a period of thirty-six months. This work must be directly related to:
Planting
Cultivating
Harvesting (including tree harvesting)
Processing of crops, poultry, or livestock
Dairy work
Catching or processing of fish
School Based Programs
Before or After School Migrant Tutorial
Academic support for students who have needs identified by parents, teachers or migrant advocate.
Transportation and Snacks are provided.
Student and Family Support (Migrant Advocate)
Home visits to families
Bilingual staff to assist families to fully participate in program activities
Adult education opportunities
Family nights
Summer Camp
Reading and Math Enrichment using researched based curriculum and programs taught by certified teachers.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided.
Transportation is provided.
Theatre Camp
Special Programs embedded, such as PE, music, or STEM
